Kennel Update-- Finally!!

Hi everyone,

All is well at Crazy Dog....JUST BUSY!!

Our internet connection at the kennel has been down for weeks, feels more like years. It might be the modem. It might be aliens, it might be bad luck. Probably just the modem. Whatever it is we'll figure it out sometime soon when we return from the bay.
I'm sorry (ahead of time) in case I have not got back in touch via email --- Hang in there and you'll hear from us soon. I promise.

GONE FISHIN!! I fly out today for King Salmon to join my husband ---we're set netting for salmon/commercial fishing. This will be my first trip to Naknek and Graveyard--sounds romantic, doesn't it? It will be nice to get back on the water. Sounds like the fish are slamming and tonight at 3am, we get into the boat and head up river 40 miles. I commercial fish with John each season for about one week, normally in Prince William Sound for Halibut. This year, my first fishing trip will be to the bay. From my experience commercial fishing thus far is a lot like dog racing/mushing. You have one narrow focus, the fishing or the dogs...when you are fishing, you are fishing and that is your focus, and when racing dogs, you are working with those dogs and that's it, the single most important thing in your world at that moment. We are working and sleeping in patterns that vary in 5-6 hour increments, living outside rain or shine, wind and storms working with the elements , very basic lifestyle with only the gear you need to work and survive, and learning patience. It's quite challenging when you are wet and cold and feeling so tired after a long 16 hour opening but the feeling of accomplishment is huge, more rewarding than anything money could buy. There is nothing better than training a team of huskies in the heart of Alaska, or training yourself to be better prepared, and overcoming self limiting patterns. These rewards are almost too great to describe.

IDITAROD 2008-- I will be signing up in July/Aug.

We've been having an Awesome summer on the Maclaren, busier than last, new tour groups coming thru at the kennel and pups are growing fast. We have a new gift shop, now open! Judy our new kennel manager is here and doing a great job, she is a natural with the dogs. I will update more when I return from the bay.

more soon--have a great 4th!
